NORTH-SOUTH SKIRMISH ASSOCIATION
CIVIL WAR BLACK POWDER COMPETITION SHOOTING

The 4th Louisiana Infantry team is a member of the North-South Skirmish Association (N-SSA) where members shoot in competitions using Civil War Era both reproduction and original weapons (rifled musket, smoothbore musket, muzzle loader carbine, breech loader carbine, Henry and other repeaters, and revolvers.

These events are both individual and team competitions. While individual target shooting is fun, the team events are even more so. Teams shoot targets like 4-inch tiles, clay pigeons hung on a wire, gallon jugs, 2 liter bottles, 5 oz. paper cups, three-inch clay pots, 12-ounce soft drink cans, eggs and more. They are challenging and fun for all.

The competitors all wear authentic replicas of the civil war uniform. Guns are checked for authenticity.
IT IS MANDATORY THAT YOU VERIFY A PROSPECTIVE GUN IS ON THE N-SSA LIST OF APPROVED WEAPONS BEFORE YOU BUY IT. YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO SHOOT ANY WEAPON THAT IS NOT ON THE LIST. CHECK WITH THE TEAM COMMANDER OR DEEP SOUTH REGION COMMANDER OR DEPUTY COMMANDER>

ATTENTION NEW MEMBERS !!
CHECK THE SOURCE BELOW FOR UNIFORMS AND ACCESSORIES

http://www.ssfirearms.com

The best uniforms available for the money are available from S & S Firearms. You can call in your order at 718-497-1100. You will need UC28 Jean Cloth trousers which run $60-70 depending on size. The US30 Columbus Depot Jacket is optional, but if you have the money now it can be had for $68-76 depending on size in natural gray jean cloth with blue trim.

The item UC1 is a CW Muslin Shirt which will run you $16-18, UC4 CW adjustable Suspenders for $12.50, and a hat will complete your uniform. Hats are a matter of choice, a kepi can be had in butternut from this same dealer for $29. I do not think they can supply in natural gray jean cloth to match the uniform, but it would not hurt to ask. You may want to bet a different style hat to give you better coverage in sun and/or rain. Most of us wear gray or brown slouch hats similiar to western hats, check the web for Dirty Billy's Hats - he has nice hats but are high priced but will give you an idea of what is available.

Get your leather together including a shoulder sling and a sword bayonet to go with your musket. If you want a new reproduction or an original bayonet, they will probably be $50 and $150 respectively.

And last but not least check out the following article on sighting in your musket.
