Fellow Musketeers:
The weekend of 11-13 April found 7 members of the Delta Rifles at the Whitetail Shooting Range near Blue Springs, Mississippi, north of Tupelo. Making this run were Bob Kelley, Chuck Garvey, Jim Wood, Billy Howard, John Coxe, Matt, and Jody Gray. Chuck and Jim arrived in the wee hours of Friday morning and managed to get a pretty good nights rest before the range opened at noon. Friday was very cloudy with a blustery wind that plagued us all weekend although the clouds gave way to sunny skies for Saturday and Sunday.
After Fridays individual competition, Chuck, Jim Bob and Billy went to nearby Blue Mountain, Mississippi to visit Matt and Jody in their beautiful new home. A large log and stone house located on 22 acres of rolling hills with 3 fish ponds. They treated us to grilled burgers and beer to cap off our day.
Saturday with the sun pouring down and the wind whipping around, we completed the individual competition and moved on to the smoothbore match with Bob, Matt, Chuck and Billy making up the team and as I predicted in earlier newsletters they finally captured a medal - 3rd place smoothbore! The first of many I hope and maybe they will be even 2nd and 1st place medals in the future.
Then near the end of the day with everyone good and tired we fielded a revolver team of Chuck, John, Matt and Jim and we also took the 3rd place revolver medal!
Saturday night the host team, the 14th Mississippi, provided a fish fry and bar-b-que in the Whitetail lodge which was well attended and enjoyed by all.
Sunday dawned sunny and a cool 39 degrees and Chuck and I, with no shell jackets, shivered thru the musket match. Matt had to miss it due to being on call for FedEx and we managed only 1 pickup giving us 6 shooters for the match. Needless to say we finished out of the medals in the musket match, however once again all the 4th La shooters went home with at least one medal as follows:

Senior skirmisher
We will be back in Briarfield on 20-22 June for the next regional skirmish. Bob, Billy and Leighton will attend the May nationals in Winchester Va and we wish them good luck in their shooting. June is usually good weather for camping out at briar field and I hope to see a full team of at least 8 members there.
